A 19-year-old boy is obsessed with astronomical photography
“I don’t like photography, I just like to see the scenery”, this is what Huang Yijun, a 19-year-old boy, said on social platforms this year Introduction. Huang Yijun started his photography journey in 2016. He became famous for his photography of Guilin landscapes and became a contracted photographer for many photography platforms.

Among Huang Yijun’s many landscape photos, there is a group of moon-themed works that attracted the attention of the Southern China Morning Post client reporter. Huang Yijun told reporters that in November last year, by chance, he saw some photos of deep sky objects on the Internet, which rekindled his passion for exploring the starry sky as a child, so he began to focus his lens on the moon and stars. "I can clearly see the shadows on the lunar craters, and it feels like watching the sunrise and sunset on the moon." Recalling the first time I saw the moon through the camera, the shock and dream at that time are still vivid in my mind. , which also made him deeply fascinated by astrophotography.

He gets up at four in the morning, chasing sunsets and sunrises again and again, taking pictures of the moon, watching meteor showers... He said that taking pictures of deep sky objects is different from taking pictures of star fields (Milky Way, Milky Way, etc.) The subject of combining star trails and ground scenery) is very different. The field of view of deep space photos is mostly small, and the celestial objects almost occupy the entire screen. "When those who have only glimpsed from a distance and cannot even name them The feeling when the celestial objects are truly displayed before our eyes is very addictive."

Photographing the moon is a technical job
What does the moon look like in the eyes of a 19-year-old boy? "The thousands of ravines on the moon's surface are shrouded in a mixture of shadows and highlights, especially the edges, which are very three-dimensional. I can clearly see the criss-crossing lunar mountains and the vast lunar sea on the moon. "Huang Yijun used an astronomical telescope and a cryo-camera to take pictures of the lunar surface. Under the clear picture, he was even more fascinated by the interesting lunar surface terrain. He couldn't help but sigh, "If possible, I really want to go up there and take a look."

In order to take good pictures of the moon, this "post-00s" has a persistence beyond his years. He spent a lot of time aligning the polar axis, calibrating the equatorial mount and telescope for the first time. To control the telescope to take pictures of the moon, he needed to know the moon phase of the day and the time when the moon appeared in advance. He just needed to choose a time period when the moon's altitude angle was higher. , the focus is on positioning the moon and manually controlling the equatorial mount to stitch together the lunar surface.

"You have to remember how to move and how to plan. Move bit by bit. This requires more patience. Occasionally, a few clouds will come, so you have to wait patiently. It disperses." Huang Yijun added that because the final image displayed on the camera is very large, only a small part of the moon, it is necessary to control the equatorial mount to shoot each part separately, which often takes 1 to 2 hours. At the same time, the amount of data is also very amazing. The data captured in one night can reach 40G or even more. In his opinion, all the efforts are worthwhile and interesting after seeing the final film.
Moon admiration and stargazing are part of life
This year, Huang Yijun’s deep sky nebula work was shortlisted for a very influential competition in the astronomical photography community - Greenway, UK The Royal Observatory's APY competition, and another work on the moon was also shortlisted for this year's Beijing Planetarium competition.

"There is a sentence in "The Moon and Sixpence", 'In order to make the soul peaceful, a person has to do two things he doesn't like every day.' And I want to make the soul restless, do it every day Two things I like: stargazing and moon appreciation.” Huang Yijun said that the unknown surprises brought by astronomical photography made him decide to stick to it. However, as a senior in high school, he still has to focus on his studies, but in the future, he plans to combine photography and computer majors to explore the combination of astrophotography and automation technology.

Huang Yijun said that he is currently working with several friends to develop an online remote astronomical shooting platform. He hopes that astronomy enthusiasts can observe celestial bodies more easily through this platform and will no longer be restricted by time and time. Location and equipment.
