The hometown of overseas Chinese in Heshun Ancient Town

Heshun is the largest hometown of overseas Chinese in southwest China. More than 400 years ago, the villagers here began to "travel to the barbarians". Since Heshun is only 70 kilometers away from Myanmar, most people go there to do jade business. There are also people who go to India (400 kilometers away from India), the United States, and Canada. Many of them have become extremely wealthy businessmen. Heshun built houses and also funded the construction of ancestral halls. There are eight major ancestral halls in the township, all with different styles. Due to the influence of foreign culture, most of the buildings in Heshun are a combination of Chinese and Western styles, with styles from South Asia and Southeast Asia. There are also many Western handicrafts and modern supplies in the house. Due to Zhu Yuanzhang's border control system in the Ming Dynasty, Heshun had many immigrants from the Central Plains, including Anhui and Nanjing, so the residential buildings here still have the architectural style of the Hui style. Various architectural styles coexist harmoniously in this beautiful southwest border area.

Tengchong was a must-pass place for the ancient "Silk Road" on land in southern Sichuan, Yunnan, Myanmar and India. Heshun is right next to the "Guanma Avenue". Therefore, Heshun has become a famous hometown of overseas Chinese because of its long history of overseas Chinese and the large number of overseas Chinese. The number of overseas Chinese in the township accounts for 100.2% of the domestic population. Including overseas Chinese family members, it accounts for 167.6% of the domestic population. Overseas Chinese are distributed in more than ten countries including Myanmar, India, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, Canada, and the United States.

After many vicissitudes of life, Heshun people miraculously preserved ancient buildings and cultural relics with their extraordinary wisdom. After the reform and opening up, Heshun took culture as its soul and protection as its basis to carry out cultural tourism with its unique architectural style, rich cultural heritage and beautiful pastoral scenery. It has become a famous tourist destination in Yunnan and has embarked on a path of sustainable development. The road is the most important cultural ecological village demonstration site in Yunnan Province. In 2003, Heshun was jointly recommended by "China National Geographic" and "Fashion Travel" as one of the "50 Places to Visit in a Lifetime".
