I graduated from mainland China with a bachelor's degree in law and want to go to Hong Kong to be a lawyer. What are the ways?
Those who wish to qualify as lawyers must obtain a bachelor's degree in law from the University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong or other institutions recognized by common law jurisdictions (if their degree is not law, they can pass the Common Professional Examination (CPE) in England and Wales) and obtain a professional certificate/postgraduate certificate in law. After obtaining the required academic qualifications, you still have to complete the internship period of "trainee lawyer" for another two years and perform well before you are allowed to practice as a lawyer in Hong Kong.
The Law Society of Hong Kong is also responsible for the registration and regulation of all foreign lawyers practising in Hong Kong. At present, foreign lawyers can pass the overseas lawyer qualification examination (or be exempted from the examination) organized by the Law Society of Hong Kong and be admitted as Hong Kong lawyers. For more information about the qualification requirements of lawyers, please visit the website of the Law Society of Hong Kong.
