What's the percentage of Shanghai people's ancestral home?

Shanghai opened from 1843 to 1949, attracting nearly one million immigrants from all over the world. Early immigrants, mostly from

Southern Jiangsu and Wuyu area of Zhejiang province, especially Suzhou and Ningbo.

Silk merchants in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province set up a large number of silk factories and controlled most of the property in the docks and concessions. Then businessmen from Ningbo immediately poured into Shanghai, took advantage of geography and language, and came from behind to become the most influential business gang in Shanghai. The famous "Great World" playground is a masterpiece of Ningbo people.

Later, residents of Suzhou, Huzhou and Jiaxing set off a wave of large-scale migration to Shanghai.

Immigrants from northern Jiangsu mainly live in Zhabei and Putuo. Others live in Yangpu and Hongkou with other local immigrants.

The number of immigrants in Suzhou is not as good as that in Ningbo, but there are certainly many in Shanghai. Hangzhou was rare, after all, it was too far at that time.

Around 1949, immigrants from northern Jiangsu gradually became the main group of immigrants from Shanghai because they fled famine and flood. However, until 1980s and 1990s, their status was still not recognized by the mainstream society.
