The History and Culture of Chukchi National Autonomous Region

The first people to set foot on Chukchi land were ancient Siberian hunters from Central Asia and East Asia. It is generally believed that these ancient Siberian people migrated to the American continent from Chukchi across the Bering Continental Bridge. Traditionally, Chukchi ethnic groups include local Chukchi people, Siberian Yupik people, Koryak people, Chufan people, Evan/Ramut people, Youcargill people and ancient Russian immigrants. Until 199 1, Chukchi Autonomous Region was an autonomous region of Magadan. It is possible for this area to merge with Magadan again.
