If you go to Australia for vacation, sightseeing, visiting relatives and friends or buying private property, you need to apply for a tourist visa (category 676). You can also apply for a tourist visa if the purpose of your visit to Australia is to attend informal courses or training within 3 months (including 3 months).

Applicants who go to Australia for vacation, sightseeing or visiting relatives and friends can also apply for a sponsored visit visa (category 679) if they have relatives in Australia and are willing to sponsor. Visa applications for sponsoring family visits must be submitted in Australia and approved by the local immigration authorities in Australia. Holders of tourist visas (categories 676 and 679) are not allowed to work during their stay in Australia.

According to different situations, tourist visas can be issued with single or multiple entry visas, and each stay in Australia is 3 months, 6 months or 12 months. Applicants can apply for the corresponding entry times and stay time according to their needs. The visa officer will decide whether to grant the corresponding visa according to the applicant's personal situation.

Under normal circumstances, a three-month tourist visa can meet the needs of most tourists coming to Australia. If you need to issue a visa for a longer stay, you need to meet certain conditions. For example, the applicant is an Australian citizen or a parent of a permanent resident and has submitted an immigration application, but the immigration visa has not been approved.

Tourist visa is a kind of visa designed to meet the short-term visit of applicants to Australia. Therefore, under normal circumstances, the visa cannot be used to stay in Australia for more than 12 months; You can't use this visa to live in Australia for a long time.

Place of submission of application

From July 2009 1, applicants living in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province must apply for tourist visas at the Australian Embassy in Beijing.

Applicants living in the following provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions must apply for a tourist visa at the visa office of the Australian Consulate in Shanghai:

Applicants living in the following provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions must apply for a tourist visa at the visa office of the Australian Consulate in Guangzhou:

How to apply

We suggest that you submit your application for a tourist visa by mail. Please mail your application form, passport and application materials to the relevant visa office. Please refer to the contact us page for the mailing address of the visa office.

Please make sure that you have paid the correct visa application fee when submitting your application. Submit the application at the Beijing Visa Office, and pay the 20 yuan EMS courier fee to send back the passport and visa results. Submit the application at the visa offices in Shanghai and Guangzhou, and the passport will be sent back by the EMS recipient, who will pay the courier fee upon receipt.

You can also choose to submit your visa application in person. But this does not mean that visa applications submitted in person will be processed faster than those submitted by mail.

Acceptance time

From the date of receiving your application, the average time for Beijing Embassy, Guangzhou Consulate Visa Office and Shanghai Consulate Visa Office to process an application with complete materials is five working days.

If your application materials are complete and we are allowed to contact you by email, your application processing time can be shortened.

Common reasons that lead to the processing time exceeding the average processing time include:

? Need for additional investigation, request for additional information or interview;

? Health problems: the applicant's physical examination needs re-examination or further treatment;

? Any moral problems related to the applicant need a formal moral evaluation.

It is also necessary to reserve a certain time for the passport to be sent back. Your passport will be sent back by EMS or SF Express. Please don't make any travel plans or buy air tickets because you think you will get a visa within the average processing period.

We suggest that you reserve more application time before planning your trip. However, the following specific circumstances will still cause your application to take longer than the average processing cycle, such as:

Did not complete the medical examination;

The application materials submitted are incomplete;

Postal bills that need to wait for the application fee;

We usually want to see not only proof of funds used to support your travel plan, but also proof of your daily income or assets, such as a copy of bank passbook showing your deposit history or salary, a copy of bank deposit certificate or payroll for a period of time, and a copy of credit card bill showing the amount.

10. Do I need a physical examination before or after submitting my application?

If you need a chest X-ray and/or a full-body examination (for example, you are an applicant aged 75 or above, or you plan to stay in Australia for more than 3 months), we will inform you to have a medical examination after you submit your visa application. Please make your own arrangements to go to the hospital designated by the Immigration Bureau for a medical examination. Tourist visas do not allow individuals to stay in Australia for a long time. Holders of tourist visas shall not stay in Australia for more than 12 months with a continuous tourist visa, unless there are special exceptions, such as the death or serious illness of an Australian relative.

12. Do I need to provide the original invitation letter to apply for a short-term business visa (Category 456)? Is an invitation letter by email or fax acceptable?

We can accept invitations sent by fax or e-mail, but please confirm that the invitation must provide the contact information of the inviter.

13. Do I need to provide proof of personal funds to apply for a short-term business (type 456) visa? Is the financial guarantee letter provided by my employer or inviter acceptable?

We require that you must have enough funds to support your travel plan. There are many ways to prove that you really have enough funds, such as providing a copy of a bank passbook showing your deposit history or salary, a copy of a bank deposit certificate or payroll for a period of time, or a copy of a credit card bill showing the amount. In addition, you can also choose to provide an economic guarantee letter issued by the inviting party or the sending party.

14. Can I do sightseeing in Australia with a short-term business visa (Category 456)?

Yes, you can. Short-term business (type 456) visas are suitable for those applicants whose main purpose is to engage in business activities in Australia. Of course, you can also engage in some sightseeing activities. As long as the applicant's main purpose is business activities, the accompanying relatives included in your application can visit Australia just for sightseeing.

15. Can a short-term business visa (Category 456) work in Australia?

Short-term business (class 456) visas are not applicable to work, and visa holders are usually not allowed to do any work that Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents can do. Under certain circumstances, Australian citizens or permanent residents may not engage in high-tech or sudden emergency work, and short-term business (Class 456) visa holders may complete it, but they must only stay for no more than 6 weeks within the validity period of the visa.
