How to apply for a STEM visa

In order to protect American workers, the STEM Act still requires foreigners to obtain an employer's guarantee when applying for a visa. In addition, if foreigners want to get a STEM visa, their employers must apply for a simplified work permit.

Doctoral students must meet the following conditions:

1) has obtained a doctorate in computer science, engineering, mathematics or physical science (excluding biological science) from a qualified university in the United States;

2) Employers who agree to apply for visas to help the beneficiaries of STEM visas, or employers who have worked in the STEM field for at least 5 years in the United States;

STEM visa beneficiaries have completed all relevant courses (including online courses) when they are in the United States;

4) The visa application must be submitted by the employer, and the employer must complete the application for the work permit in advance to prove that no qualified American workers are able and willing to do the job.

Graduate students must meet the following conditions:

1) Complete computer science, engineering, mathematics or physical science (excluding biological science) in qualified American universities, complete two-year master's study and obtain a master's degree.

2) University STEM major;

3) Employers who agree to apply for visas to help the beneficiaries of STEM visas, or employers who have worked in the STEM field for at least 5 years in the United States;

STEM visa beneficiaries have completed all relevant courses (including online courses) when they are in the United States;

5) Visa applications must be submitted by employers who help foreigners apply for work permits.

A qualified university must meet the following conditions:

1) is eligible for federal student aid;

2) obtain official recognition;

3) A university that has a large number of or high-level research activities and can be awarded a doctorate by the Carnegie Foundation for the Promotion of Teaching; Or when the bill becomes law, the National Science Foundation of the United States will assess the university as a school with the same research ability as the above-mentioned schools according to the application of the university;

4) The existence time is not less than 10 year;

5) The school will not pay anyone any rewards to recruit foreign students.

Employment and work permit:

Compared with the current application requirements of PERM work permit, the requirements of STEM work permit are not so harsh. According to the STEM Act, employers must post job advertisements in the State Department of Labor, but they don't need to post any other advertisements or notices. However, since work permits are necessary, employers must prove that no qualified American workers are able and willing to do the job.

It is worth noting that the STEM visa is still an immigrant visa that requires an employer's guarantee. The STEM Act can help foreigners who have received higher education in the STEM field to obtain immigrant visas, but only if the foreigner can find an employer who is willing to sponsor them.
