Why should Wanzhou District be built into the second largest city in Chongqing?

The Chongqing municipal government has built Wanzhou into the second largest city in Chongqing, which has a firm scientific basis and far-reaching strategic significance. The following mainly discusses the reasons why Wanzhou is the second largest city in Chongqing from the aspects of geographical location, resource status and policy environment.

(A), location advantages

Wanzhou district of Chongqing is located in the center of the Three Gorges reservoir area, at the intersection of the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Named after "Bi Hui, Wan Chuan, where thousands of businessmen gather", it is one of the top ten ports in the Yangtze River. Wanzhou district is located at10755' 22 "-10853' 25" east longitude and 30 24' 25 "-314' 58" north latitude. It is connected to Yunyang County and Lichuan City in Hubei Province in the east, Shizhu County in the south, Zhongxian County, liangping county and Dazhou City in Sichuan Province in the west, and Kaixian County in the north. Wanzhou is also located between Chongqing and Yichang, which is the radiation area of economic diffusion between the two cities and the best combination point of economic contact and development between Chongqing and Hubei. At the same time, Wanzhou's economic development radiates Yunyang, Kaixian and Liangping counties, driving and promoting the economic development of surrounding areas.

Wanzhou is the largest immigrant city of the Three Gorges Project of the Yangtze River, with a flooded population of 2 1.63 million and dynamic immigrants of 250,000, accounting for 1/5 of the total immigrants of the Three Gorges Project and 1/4 of the Chongqing reservoir area. Wanzhou district has a superior location, which has the advantages of resettlement development in the Three Gorges reservoir area and development along the Yangtze River Economic Belt. Wanzhou is the "node" of politics, economy, culture, immigration, transportation and resources in the counties of the Three Gorges reservoir area, which cannot be bypassed. Wanzhou has the advantage of building a central city in the reservoir area and will also become a new economic growth point in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

(B) Resource advantages

(1) Population resources

The whole region covers an area of 3,457 square kilometers and governs 52 towns and streets. The total population is 1, 7 1.7 million, which is the largest among 40 districts and counties in Chongqing. The urban built-up area is 4 1 km2, and the urban population is 595,000, which is the largest in cities except the main urban area. There are 263,000 dynamic migrants, accounting for one-fifth of the Three Gorges reservoir area and one-quarter of the Chongqing reservoir area. The migration task is the heaviest in all districts and counties in the reservoir area.

(2) Industrial resources

The hills near Wanzhou are rich in citrus, tung oil, butter, raw lacquer, mushrooms, as well as coal, iron, sulfur and salt, and are also one of the main producing areas of goats and goatskins. The industries are mainly canned food and meat, textile and leather industries. Followed by machinery, fertilizer, paper.

(3) Traffic resources

Wanzhou is one of the national 179 highway transportation hub cities. After the completion of the Three Gorges Project, Wanzhou will be a perennial deep-water port, and the Yangtze River shipping will be greatly improved. With the opening of Dawan Railway, Wuqiao Airport and Wan Yu Expressway, the completion of Wan Yi Railway, Wankai Expressway, Wan Yun Expressway and Shiwan Secondary Highway, as well as the planned Wan Li Expressway, Dawan Railway and Wanzhou, have become the regional cities with the best traffic conditions in the western inland area, and the indirect economic hinterland extends to western Hubei, western Sichuan, northern Sichuan and southern Shaanxi. Wanzhou Port's annual cargo throughput ranks second in Chongqing, second only to Chongqing Port.

This also makes Wanzhou gradually become the import and export of the new Three Gorges tourism and the service center and distribution center of the reservoir area tourism. Sitting on the golden waterway of the Yangtze River and the 3 18 national highway running through the east and west is a great advantage for Wanzhou to build a regional transportation hub and the second largest city in Chongqing.

(3) Policy advantages

In recent years, Wanzhou has conscientiously implemented the "3 14" master plan and the spirit of document No.3 issued by the State Council [2009], successfully completed the task of relocation and resettlement of immigrants, and its economic and social development is at the forefront in the northeast of Chongqing. Significant changes have taken place in urban and rural areas and people's lives, standing at a new historical starting point. Municipal departments should improve and implement relevant supporting measures in a timely manner in accordance with the deployment and requirements of the municipal party Committee and the municipal government; Wanzhou District Committee and District Government will also unite and lead the people of the whole region, seize opportunities, forge ahead, carry forward the spirit of self-reliance and hard struggle, and accelerate the pace of economic and social development.
