The Historical Evolution of Gubei Town

Gubei Town is the capital of Anhui Province during the Anti-Japanese War. Its name comes from the ancient stone tablet engraved with "Gubeichong" which was rushed out by the flash floods in Xianfeng in the seventh year of Qing Dynasty. The ancient tablet originally belonged to Lu 'an County, which was designated as "Li Huang County" during the Kuomintang period. 1947, Li Huang County was Jinzhai County, and Gubei Township was established. Meishan reservoir was built in 1954, and the ancient monument area was established due to the change of zoning; 1968, withdrawing areas and merging points to form Gubei commune; 1972 restoration of ancient monument area; Until 1992, the area was withdrawn and merged into the township, and the original Gubei Town, Nanfan Township and Qilinwan Township were merged into Gubei Town. In 2008, Shuizhuping Township was merged into today's Gubei Town.

Gubei Town is only a small street of twenty or thirty families in history. During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression period, it was the 2nd1Army Command of Anhui University and National Revolutionary Army, and the headquarters of the Fifth Theater Cadre Training Corps. It was once very prosperous. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the Kuomintang provincial government moved eastward to Hefei, and then it was depressed. After the construction of Meishan Reservoir, Jinjiazhai immigrants moved here, and Chengguan District and Maoding District merged into palearctic, which became the residence of district offices and units directly under the district, and the towns became increasingly prosperous.
