Why are Singapore basically descended from overseas Chinese?

Most of the residents in Singapore are descendants of overseas Chinese, because many years ago, residents from China's coastal provinces, including Hainan, Fujian and Guangdong, immigrated to Singapore.

In the introduction of Singapore in the encyclopedia, the history of immigrants can be traced back to the Yuan Dynasty in China. In the Yuan Dynasty, people were sent to look for elephants. At that time, foreigners from China told them that China had lived there. This place is now Singapore.
