Relationships between Israel and Mongolia

Israel is located in West Asia and belongs to Asia.

Israel (State of Israel) is a country located in the Levant region of Western Asia. It is located in the southeast of the Mediterranean Sea, bordering Lebanon to the north, Syria and Jordan to the east, and Egypt to the southwest. It declared independence in 1948. In January 2014, its population exceeded 8.13 million, including 6.11 million Jews. It is the only country in the world where Jews are the majority ethnic group. Jerusalem is the capital and seat of central government of Israel. Israel has a high degree of industrialization and strong overall economic strength.

Although it has traditionally had a closer relationship with European countries, the division of countries is based on geography.

Some of the territories are under Israeli jurisdiction and are not officially Israeli territory. Moreover, Israel is dominated by Jews and is surrounded by Arabs and the Islamic world. It is particularly prominent and is not recognized by some neighboring countries.

During the Six-Day War in 1967, Israel captured Jordan's West Bank, Syria's Golan Heights, Egypt's Gaza Strip (then occupied by Egypt) and the Sinai Peninsula. Israel withdrew all its garrisons and colonies from the Sinai Peninsula in 1982, and completely withdrew from the Gaza Strip on September 12, 2005. However, the ownership of the West Bank and Gaza Strip remains unresolved. East Jerusalem has been under Israeli judicial and administrative jurisdiction since 1967, and the Golan Heights has been under Israeli jurisdiction since 1981, although they are not officially Israeli territory.

The sovereignty of the State of Israel, if all territories conquered by Israel in 1967 are excluded, totals 20,777 square kilometers (1% of the water area). If the areas under the jurisdiction of Israeli civil law, including eastern Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, are included, the total is 22,145 square kilometers, with less than 1% of the area being water. The territory entirely controlled by Israel, including the West Bank areas under military control and Palestinian government autonomy, is 28,023 square kilometers.
