Before applying

Before applying for postgraduate study at the University of Edinburgh, first verify whether you meet the admission requirements and prepare all required materials.

You may need to secure a course place before you can apply for a grant, but you don't have to wait for exam results or scholarship application results before you apply for degree study. If there are still places in the course, the school will consider late applicants, but the prerequisite is that you need to communicate with the relevant admissions office first.

Required documents: When applying for graduate school, you need to upload the following documents: (1) Copies of transcripts of all subjects obtained before the application deadline. (2) Copy of graduation certificate (degree certificate) (if any) (3) Letter of recommendation. Start your application

Applications for postgraduate programs at the University of Edinburgh need to be made online. Applications for most graduate programs require the use of DegreeFinder. You can view your selected study program on DegreeFinder.

After finding the study program on DegreeFinder, find the "apply" button in the "applying" column. Set the award, studymode, startdate and other options, and then select "apply" to start the application.

There are application guidelines on the application form to help you complete each column. You don't have to fill in all the fields at once; you can save partially filled applications. In this case, you will receive an email with a link to continue filling out the application form. After filling out and submitting, you can track the application progress and accept or reject the school's offer.

Personal Statement

You need to submit a personal statement of about 500 words, briefly describing your study experience and related experiences.

Content covered: The personal statement provides you with the opportunity to briefly describe your studies and relevant experience to demonstrate your suitability for the course you are applying for.

Your personal statement should state your motivation for applying. If you are applying to multiple study programs at the same time, you should have a dedicated personal statement for each application. This ensures that you can be considered for each application, highlighting how your academic background and skills make you suitable for the program of your choice.

Length and writing style: The personal statement should be no more than 3,500 characters (approximately 500 words), written formally, and use correct grammar and punctuation. Before submitting your application, consider asking a friend to help you proofread your personal statement.

Recommendation letters

Recommendation letters are usually required when applying. Recommendation requirements vary from program to program: some require no recommendations, others require one or two recommendations. You can check the recommendation requirements for your selected program on DegreeFinder.

Select a recommender: The recommender can be a personal tutor or a professional teacher who has taught you during your undergraduate or master's degree. The recommender needs to be able to evaluate your graduate study potential. If it has been some time since graduation when you apply, you can provide work-related recommendations instead of professional recommendations. The recommenders at this time are usually business managers.

Provide letters of recommendation: You can provide letters of recommendation through the following channels: (1) Online (through applicanthub), you can upload letters of recommendation when applying online. (2) Post: Recommendation letters can be mailed to the relevant college office. Please make sure your letter of recommendation includes your full name and date of birth. If you have applied for and received a UUN, you should also include your full name and date of birth.

Certificate Translation

You need to provide a copy of the professional qualification certificate when applying. Copies should indicate the legal degree level and marks for each unit or module. If the original language is not English, you need to provide formal translation certificates.

Translation agencies need to belong to the following: (1) Original issuing agency. (2) Sworn translators (3) Employees of translation and interpretation agencies.

If the translation agency is not an awarding institution, you will also be asked to provide: (1) A certificate from the translator or translation company to show that the translation is an accurate translation of the original. (2) Date of translation of the original document.

(3) The full name and signature of the translator, or the full name and signature of the director of the translation company (4) The contact information of the translator or translation company.
