Dagel Township is located in the eastern part of Golmud City, 87 kilometers away from the city government. The population is 2,000, all of which are Han Chinese. The total area is 6,000 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 4 village committees: Zhongcun, East Village, Xicun and Xinzhuang Village.

The Dagrad Labor Reform Farm was built in 1958 and handed over to the agricultural construction division in 1965. In 1968, it was changed to the Dagrad Branch of Golmud Farm. In 1979, the Longyangxia Reservoir was built to accommodate the relocated immigrants. Dagel Commune was established under the jurisdiction of Dulan County. It was placed under Golmud City in 1982 and changed to Dagel Township in 1984.

The average altitude is 2,780 meters, the annual average temperature is 3.6℃, ??the annual rainfall is 38.3mm, and it is characterized by high cold and drought.
