List of visa types for studying in France How long does it take to apply for a French visa type?

What visas do applicants need to prepare to study in France? Before you apply, you need to confirm the visa type you want to apply for. Let's take a look at the list of visa types for studying in France. How long does it take to apply for a French visa type?

Visa type

1. Short-term student visa

/kloc-under the age of 0/8, registered institutions do not belong to the category of institutions of higher learning (especially middle schools) or stay in France for no more than 3 months, which can be handled directly through the French Consulate in China.

Long-term residence student visa (more than 3 months) or examination visa must participate in the pre-visa procedure of French higher education institutions.

2. Long-term student visa

Studying in France for more than 6 months requires a long-term student visa.

Long-term visas will be marked with the words "college students", and the validity period is between six months and one year, and the longest is no more than one year.

It should be noted that the long-term student visa itself does not have the effect of residence. Therefore, students studying in France can apply for visa activation online or at the local immigration office within 3 months of their first arrival in France, and they must show their long-term student visas when doing so.

After studying in France for one year, students studying in France can extend their residence permit.

3. Temporary long-term residence visa

If you go to France to study French, you need to reach a certain level of French to get a visa. But without a foundation in French, what about students who want to study languages in France? At this time, you can apply for a temporary long-term student visa (VLST).

Generally speaking, for 3-6 months of language study, you need to apply for a visa through a French higher education institution to obtain a temporary long-term residence visa (non-renewable). It should be noted that this visa can only be used for the purpose of simply learning a language. During this period, students are not allowed to take courses of other majors, and they are required to apply as adults.

Unlike long-term student visas, students with temporary long-term residence visas must return to China after language study, and cannot directly apply for extension. Even if you want to continue studying in France, you need to go back to China to apply for a student visa.

Of course, students applying for such visas do not need to provide French test scores when they participate in the interview evaluation.

4. Examination visa

The longest examination visa is no more than 90 days, which is mainly applicable to short-term students studying in France who go to France to take competitive examinations or exams.

After passing the exam and being admitted to a French university, you can get a long-term student visa without going back to your country of origin. If French universities require students to take preparatory courses or supplementary courses before final admission, they can also issue "student-oriented visas".

When applying for a visa, it should be decided according to the actual situation and the purpose of studying abroad, and must not be confused!

France has multiple Schengen visas a year, and the "stay time" on the visa page is the period of stay, usually 90 days. According to the regulations, the applicant can stay for up to 90 days in any 180 days within the validity period. Of course, how long the applicant is allowed to stay will ultimately be based on the "stay period" specified by the visa officer.

Visa procedure

Step 1: Make an appointment

Online booking is free and can usually be booked closer (for example, next week or next month), while telephone booking seems to be later (for example, two months later).

Generally, you can get a visa on the same day (you may have to wait an hour or two for those who arrive early and three or six hours for those who arrive late). The first selection was late, and the waiting time was extremely painful. Later, I chose an earlier time.

Step 2: Prepare the materials.

What you need includes: passport, application form, student letter (or work letter), two photos, bank statement, air ticket, hotel order (or official reception certificate issued by the inviter) and travel insurance.

Travel insurance can be found on Google. I've seen 20 euros a year. Buying a year can get a longer visa than buying a few days-I have seen some people who only bought insurance for four days and got a four-day visa. If the insurance is for one year, the general student status is that you can stay for 30 days within two or three months (I know that, and I do the same), and many people who have jobs get a 90-day stay within six months.

As for the official reception certificate, it was opened by people living in France at the local city hall. Some city halls charge 30 euros, others 45 euros, and it is quite troublesome to invite people to prepare some materials. If you are only staying in France for a few days, it is not recommended for your friends to do so-it is much easier to book a hotel that can be returned for free.

Step 3: Visa Day

All materials should be copied-the embassy will keep the copy and return it to the original (some people are rejected because of lack of copies).

Queue outside the door early-there are many people at the same time, so you can get out early by queuing there early. If you make an appointment at the earliest, you will usually be at the front one hour in advance.

Bring something to eat and play with-there is a vending machine in it, but there are not many choices. If you wait too long, what you don't play with will be boring.
