Little-known story behind A Journey to the Moon

Interview with Apollo moon astronaut Aldrin

1On July 6th, 969, Apollo 1 1 carried three astronauts into space. After four days' voyage, exactly 3 1 years ago today, two astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the moon for the first time. To commemorate this trip to the moon, Xu Gehui, a reporter from Phoenix TV Chinese Channel, interviewed Aldrin, who is 70 years old. "One small step for me is a big step for all mankind." Armstrong's famous words excited hundreds of millions of people, but who knows what will happen if this step is not successful? At present, some scientists question the authenticity of landing on the moon 3 1 year ago, and think that the most accurate answer will be given by history. So, are we more interested in hearing what Aldrin has to say now?

I don't know if I have written my eulogy before I leave.

"These brave people came here and broke its peace, but in the end they will die peacefully. They know that they have lost the chance to survive, but they know that this sacrifice will bring new hope to all mankind. " This is the general idea of the eulogy written by the American government for astronauts before landing on the moon.

Reporter: The Los Angeles Times revealed that before Apollo 1 1 landed on the moon, the US government had made the worst preparations. President Nixon even had a eulogy written for a rainy day. Do you know these?

Aldrin (hereinafter referred to as "Ao"): No, I didn't know beforehand. But I don't think we need to know. We don't dwell on misfortune, but keep an optimistic attitude to complete the task. We don't have to worry unnecessarily, because it will only deepen our fears, narrow our horizons and even undermine our performance. The man who is preparing the eulogy is a famous person, with whom I once talked.

The road from the earth to the moon

Aldrin said that the first human landing on the moon was not as romantic as everyone thought.

Reporter: How did you feel when you set foot on the moon? Is everything as you expected?

O: It's about what I expected. The sky is as black as velvet, reflecting that the moon is bright by the sun. It was dark and the arc of the horizon extended forward. The movements are easy, but they are all slow, because the gravity is small and the spacesuit also limits our flexibility. It is difficult to reconstruct the picture at that time now.

Reporter: Can you tell me something about what you were thinking when Apollo 1 1 counted down ten seconds before takeoff?

Q: I don't remember what I was thinking. After what we went through, we went through the procedure calmly and just hoped that everything would go well. I think the most important thing is to be as vigilant as possible and observe what is happening. I hope everything goes well.

Who said you could see the Great Wall on the moon?

There has always been a saying that there is only one man-made building on the moon that can be seen by naked eyes, and that is the Great Wall in Wan Li, China. Aldrin said that this is a misunderstanding.

Reporter: What does the earth look like from the moon? How did you feel then?

Problem: It's not easy to see the earth, because it's just above your head, and our masks are not convenient for us to look up. We can only catch a glimpse of where she is. It can be said that although people want to ask us how we felt at that time, our task there is not to come back and tell people how we felt. We were sent there to work and explore, paving the way for later generations.

Reporter: Can you really see the Great Wall of Wan Li on the moon?

Q: I can tell people all over China that you can't see the Great Wall of Wan Li on the moon. That is caused by misunderstanding in TV answers and people's ignorance of the facts. The Great Wall is narrow and irregular, so it is difficult to see irregular things on the track. If it is a wide and straight road from the airport to the urban area, it will be easier to see than the irregular Great Wall. Only when you can see a hair 2.88 kilometers away with the naked eye can you see the Great Wall of Wan Li on the moon.

Mars is better than the moon.

More suitable for human habitation

Exploring outer space has always been a dream of mankind. The increasingly crowded and deteriorating environment forces people to look for neighboring planets again and again.

Reporter: Could there be life on the moon?

Q: No. ...

Reporter: What about Mars?

Q: It is possible ... there may have been life on Mars thousands of years ago. It's hard to say.

Reporter: Can you predict when humans will set foot on Mars?

Q: If the government does what I think it should do, I can predict. Make a plan, then put it into practice, and make improvements from time to time. But we haven't done this yet, neither the space program nor NASA. If there is, I think we can land on Mars in twenty years.

Reporter: an important purpose of landing on the moon is to find places outside the earth where people can live. Do you think the moon is worth exploring and developing as a place for human migration?

Question: After thousands of years, human beings will create many unimaginable things. To some extent, a responsible civilized society should ensure that this civilization can continue to exist. The moon is one of the places where human beings may live, but Mars is more suitable. It is more like the earth than the moon. So Mars is an ideal choice to build a place for human migration.

Reporter: What do you think is the real meaning of sending humans to the moon by spaceship?

Question: I saw the replay on TV the day I came back from the moon. I realized that the basic purpose of going to the moon was not to bring back those stones, nor was it the fear and joy we said at that time, but that the earth people witnessed this pioneering work. All these have had a positive impact on their lives.

According to official American news, Aldrin and Armstrong became the first people to print human footprints on the moon. They explored the moon and collected rocks, and the next day they met Collins at 60 meters in the orbit of the lunar module. 1972 Aldrin retired from the Air Force and entered the business world. About his experience in lunar space, he published two works, Return to the Earth and People from the Earth. Recently, he also published a science fiction novel about the moon, dedicated to helping ordinary people travel in space and realize their space dreams.
