Nasa Tess satellite found three giant planets on the verge of extinction.

According to CNET, in all the known worlds, three Jupiter-sized gas giant planets discovered by a NASA satellite may be the first planets to be swallowed up and destroyed by their own stars.

These unstable planets are called TOI-2337b, TOI-4329b and TOI-2669b. Each one revolves around a subgiant or a superstar. In fact, researchers say that TOI-2337b will be swallowed up by its host star in the next million years. Although it seems a long time, it is only a blink of an eye on the time scale of the universe, which makes this planet the most dangerous world we know.

Glenn Blatter is the lead author of a paper outlining these findings, which will be published in the forthcoming Journal of Astronomy.

These three threatened gas giant planets were discovered in the images taken by NASA's transit exoplanet survey satellite (TESS) in 20 18 and 20 19.

The current understanding of researchers is that the final stage of life in the solar system may be chaotic, because stars will expand and heat their planets, and at the same time, they may change their orbits and increase the possibility of catastrophic collisions. Eventually, the whole system may collapse and be swallowed up by the stars.

Scientists say they will continue to use TESS and other tools (such as the recently launched James Webb Space Telescope) to monitor this and other similar planetary systems.

Nick Saunders, co-author of the study, said: "We hope to find dozens to hundreds of such evolutionary transit planetary systems through TESS, providing new details on how planets interact, expand and migrate around stars, including stars like our sun."
