Sansha City, Hainan Province is a county and city with the southernmost territory, the southernmost geographical position, the largest total area (including sea area), the smallest land area and the least population in China. It is the second administrative region in China to set up an island city after Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province.

Sansha City, Hainan Province is one of the three prefecture-level cities in Hainan Province, People's Republic of China (PRC). It is a newly established prefecture-level administrative region in July 20 12 with the cancellation of the offices of Xisha Islands, Nansha Islands and zhongsha islands. Located in the South China Sea of China, it governs the islands and reefs of Xisha Islands, zhongsha islands and Nansha Islands and their sea areas, with a total area of 2 million square kilometers, including land area of 13 square kilometers. The municipal government is located in Yongxing Island, Xisha.
