Kokang, the full name of Kokang Autonomous Region in northern Shan State, Myanmar, is located on the Shan Plateau between Myanmar and China, in Laojie, the capital. It borders Yunnan Province in China in the north and east, Wa region in the south, salween and Muse City in the west, covering an area of about 2,700 square kilometers, and the border with China is 250 kilometers long!

The Kokang area has a total population of about 250,000, of which 90% are Kokang people, which is the main inhabited area of Han nationality in northern Myanmar. The Kokang area was originally the territory of China, belonging to Yunan Province. 1894, China and Britain signed the "China-Myanmar Border Treaty", which divided the Kokang area into the territory of China.

However, in 1897, Britain forced China to sign a new border treaty with it, which brought Kokang into British Burma. Due to complicated historical reasons, when 1960 signed the border treaty with New China, it did not mention Kokang, and the Kokang area was managed by Shan State of Myanmar. This is caused by historical reasons.

Courage is a special place, and the Han nationality accounts for a large proportion. There is a saying that the Kokang people are China people living in Myanmar, but they don't have China nationality!

Although Kokang people are under the jurisdiction of Myanmar, due to special reasons, they are still different from Myanmar aborigines. For example, the biggest difference is the type of ID card. Courageous people's ID cards are lower than those of Burmese people, and some hold white cards, which is the lowest level of ID cards, giving people the impression that they are 369 and so on!

There is another obvious difference between Chinese in Kokang area and Chinese in other places. Most courageous people can only speak one language-Chinese. Chinese in other parts of Myanmar can speak at least two languages, namely Burmese and Chinese.

Of course, it is because in recent years, the Myanmar government has also made great efforts to popularize the teaching of Burmese in the Kokang area under its control. Let the courageous people gradually integrate into Myanmar culture, but due to history and the location of the region, it is impossible for the locals to give up Chinese at least for a short time.
