The current situation of immigration to Iraq
First of all, the continuous turmoil in West Asia and North Africa has caused a large number of refugees.
In an exclusive interview with Xinhua International, Galik, an associate professor at the Institute of International Studies at Nuss University in corbis and an expert on European integration and security policy, said that this wave of European refugees came from unstable countries such as Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as countries where civil war broke out like Syria. Western countries tried to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries, but they all failed. The turmoil in Iraq has led to instability in the entire Middle East, and the expansion of the territory by the "Islamic State" has led to the influx of refugees.
Galik said: "At the beginning, the United States intervened in Iraq and Afghanistan with a clear purpose, that is, to replace the dictatorship with a new regime and promote democracy, but now it has proved to be a complete failure. As an ally of the United States, European countries are also involved. After World War II, the United States successfully consolidated democracy in Germany and Japan, but failed to do so in Iraq and Afghanistan. In this regard, the United States and Europe have a great responsibility.
Take Libya as an example. During Gaddafi's rule, Libya signed an agreement with European countries to combat the smuggling of refugees into Europe. However, western countries, including France, violently intervened in Libya and overthrew the Qaddafi regime, which led to the lack of a central government in Libya and could not prevent refugees from Africa from entering the European Union through the vast Libyan territory.
The conflict that lasted for more than four years plunged Syria into a deep humanitarian disaster. The war not only took away the lives and homes of Syrians, but also the "derivatives" of the war, such as economic depression, soaring prices and high unemployment rate, eroded their confidence in continuing to live in this land.
Affected by the war, Syria's infrastructure has been severely damaged, and public services such as water and electricity supply are unsustainable. Even in Damascus, the slightly better capital, the average family has a power outage for six to eight hours every day, and queuing for an hour or two to refuel has become commonplace ... "How to sneak into Europe" has now become the most discussed topic among Syrians in private. In order to escape the war and a confusing future, more and more Syrians choose to put all their eggs in one basket and embark on this uncertain road of smuggling.
Muennis, a senior media person in Syria, said that the refugee problem did not appear in a day or two, but was accompanied by the continuous turmoil of the war. Some western countries "fanned the flames" from the beginning of the crisis, providing economic and political support for Syrian opposition forces, which led to the worsening situation in Syria; However, when they are now affected by the spillover of the Syrian crisis, they pass the buck to each other, which shows their hypocrisy and double standards in dealing with the Syrian issue.
Secondly, the current refugee tide is driven by human smugglers.
Galik pointed out that there are incredible "professional" people smuggling activities in the current refugee tide, and people smugglers organize and transport a large number of refugees. Thanks to incredible modern technology, people smugglers already know how to use mobile phones and other technologies to direct the movements of refugees and tell them which way to go and what to do.
Third, Europe is favored by refugees because of its geographical location and economic interests.
Galik said that the current refugees mainly believe in Islam, so they can't go to rich Arab countries because Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries have closed their borders and are unwilling to accept them. This is not the case in Europe. Some European countries such as Germany have expressed their willingness to accept them, so these countries are attractive to them. There are also economic considerations for refugees to choose European countries.
As far as France is concerned, analysts pointed out that France is located in the core area of Western Europe and it is very convenient to travel to Britain and Western European countries. As a former colonial power, France has long-term and extensive ties with many African and Middle Eastern countries in history. At present, there are a large number of legal immigrants from these countries in France. Some people have gained a firm foothold after decades of struggle and achieved good development in French society.
Analysts pointed out that the influx of refugees triggered economic and social problems and humanitarian crises in Europe, which became an unbearable burden for some countries and tested the unity and coping ability within the EU. However, exploring the root causes of this crisis is inseparable from Europe's blind pursuit of American foreign policy in West Asia and North Africa.
In any case, I still hope that this crisis can be properly handled and resolved, so that people will no longer suffer and peace and stability will spread all over the world.
