Do I need a border card to go to Everest Base Camp?

A border card is a passport to a border area or a special control area. Without a border card, it is impossible to pass in some parts of Tibet.

Legal basis: Article 10 of the Measures for the Administration of Passes in People's Republic of China (PRC) Border Management Zones shall apply to the public security organ at or above the county level or the designated public security police station where the permanent residence is located. Under any of the following circumstances, an application may be submitted to the public security organ at or above the county level or the designated public security police station where the non-permanent residence is located, based on the certificate of the unit: (1) Persons whose permanent residence is in the same city as the place where the work unit is located, but not in the same jurisdiction. (two) the central departments and provincial people's government agencies abroad. (3) Persons who have lived temporarily in the place where the non-resident account is located 1 year or more. (four) due to job transfer, the permanent residence or temporary residence has not yet been built. (five) national staff who really need to go to the border management area because of urgent official duties.
