Reflections on the present situation of rural education

Due to the limitation of my life experience and vision, I only represent my personal views. Please correct me if there is anything wrong!

I am a rural person in a remote mountainous area in Ruyang County, Henan Province. I was lucky to be admitted to Luoyang No.3 Normal University (Luoning Normal University) in August of 1988. At that time, I was 16 years old and became the first official of our production team to go to school without spending money, which was a great event at that time. After graduation, Hao returned to his hometown where he worked for nearly 30 years and became a teacher without hesitation. During the period, I also had the idea of not wanting to be a teacher and wanting to go into business, but I had to give up because I was heartless. Most of my brothers and sisters either change careers, take up leadership positions or attend schools in the city, but I still stick to the place where my dream started, which is only more than 20 miles from home to school, but it has taken me 30 years and I am still on the road.

The poplar seedlings planted by hand in the school are now towering trees. The students left one after another, and the teacher came and left. The rest stone bench looks shiny, and the only constant is the sound of reading and the smiling face of sunshine and youth. I don't know what is worth keeping me here, but I think there is some kind of power. ...

The present situation of rural education I saw is different from that in my mind. My ideal education is getting farther and farther away, because my strength is weak and I can't change the status quo.

First, the gap between rural primary and secondary education and urban primary and secondary education is growing.

1, the difference in school hardware is getting bigger and bigger.

When we go to school, the school is either an abandoned temple, an old theater or even a sheepfold. When it rains, it is big outside and small inside, and there is transparent tape on the window. My greatest wish is to study by myself at night with electric lights, which is the happiest thing. The city is already a classroom with bright windows. When we tighten our belts to run education in rural areas (schools are built in every village), the city is already full of high-rise buildings. When there are many buildings in rural areas, the schools in the city are already gardens, with a gap of more than 30 years.

2. The gap between teachers is getting bigger and bigger.

In 1980s, it was a common phenomenon that rural teachers graduated from primary school and junior high school. High school graduates or college graduates are rare talents, while urban teachers are middle school graduates. At the end of the 20th century, rural teachers graduated from technical secondary schools or junior colleges, while urban teachers graduated from junior colleges. At present, the academic qualifications of rural teachers have reached the national standard, but there is a serious shortage of teachers. A township with a population of less than 20,000 has more than 50 teachers, and a county has more than 1 1,000 teachers.

3. There is a serious shortage of students in rural areas, and there are large classes in cities.

With a large number of rural laborers working in cities and families with good economic conditions moving to cities more and more seriously, a large number of people flow to cities, the actual rural population drops sharply, and the number of students decreases greatly. It turns out that there are more than 0/00 students in an administrative village/kloc, even in junior high schools. Now there are only 10 students left. A large number of school buildings are idle and teachers cannot be assigned. Most of them are volunteer teachers or drop out of school and finish their studies. On the contrary, schools in villages and towns, schools with good teacher resources in cities, students are overcrowded, and large classes and super-large classes occur from time to time, forming a vicious circle. The number of students of all grades in rural administrative villages has dropped sharply, and a large number of school buildings are idle, wasting resources. However, cities or schools with good urban resources are full of all grades, and large and super-large classes are used to it, which is not up to standard when the balance is created.

4. The contrast between the single means of rural education and urban information teaching is more obvious.

In the last century, teachers in rural areas were just a piece of chalk, a blackboard and a mouth. Up to now, there has been little change. Even if teachers go out to learn advanced teaching methods and suffer from insufficient equipment, the city is completely different. From a piece of chalk and a blackboard to a projector to a class, from a multimedia classroom to a smart classroom, students' interest in learning is high and classroom efficiency is obviously improved.

Second, the reasons for the shrinking scale of rural schools and the sharp drop in the number of students

1. A large number of rural laborers go to work in cities, and some children go to school with their parents, which increases the burden on urban schools and some become left-behind children. On the issue of teenagers, the number of students in school has decreased and school resources have been wasted.

2. The construction of rural communities and the relocation of immigrants are another reason for the decrease in the number of students in rural schools and the reduction in the size of schools. In the past few years, the construction of rural communities, the concentration of scattered households and the convenience of people's lives have reduced the population of the original place of residence. Coupled with tourism development and mining development, the number of collective immigrants has increased. These are the reasons for the decrease of local students and the waste of school resources.

3. With the development of rural economy, some farmers have become rich and are eager for quality education to change their destiny. With the emancipation of the mind and their own efforts, some farmers have become rich, and the road to making contributions by taking part-time jobs is not far away. If they want to have a fundamental change, it is the best way to let their children receive a good education. If local education can't meet their needs, they should transfer to urban schools.

Third, some national policies or public opinions are the driving force behind the current situation of rural education.

1. In the final analysis, the development of education is the development of teachers, not the development of school hardware, and the relationship between the two should be handled well. Around 2000, we "tightened our belts to run education" here, and every village raised funds to build schools. The best building at that time was the school, which received rave reviews. However, the state abolished normal students. With the increase of students and the serious shortage of teachers, a large number of non-normal students and special post teachers blindly recruit from the society to engage in education, which makes the development of education in a very unstable situation. Non-normal students are wrong in their major, ignorant of the teaching materials and methods of pedagogy psychology, and the special post teachers are unstable. Teachers are stepping stones everywhere and are not satisfied with the status quo. Can education be done well?

2. Teachers' status is loud, high and well paid, but in fact it is just the opposite. Very few outstanding college entrance examination students apply for normal majors. There is such a joke in society that "I can't do anything as a teacher", which is an insult to the teaching profession. On the other hand, the threshold for being a teacher is too low, which leads to mixed fish and dragons.

3. Teachers are vulnerable groups, and parents and public opinion are sometimes at a loss. The teaching profession has also become a high-risk industry. Parents have higher and higher requirements for schools, especially safety issues. Whenever there is a collision or fight between students in school, parents will look for school affairs and say that the teacher is irresponsible. Teachers criticize students for being too heavy and disrespecting students' personality, and they will sue the education leadership department. In order to avoid trouble, our competent department will make teachers apologize and make teachers lose their confidence and motivation in teaching and educating people.

4. The training of teachers is more important for professional development than the hardware development of schools.

Looking back, if teachers' development and school building were chosen at the end of last century, if we "tightened our belts" and worked hard on teachers' professional development, it would be another scene. Now the school building is very good and fully equipped, but there are no professional teachers. Substitute teachers themselves should die out, but there are more and more.

The development of the school is lost in the tide of society and economy.

The theory of "knowledge uselessness" has impacted the school from the society, and it is useless to go to college. It is better to go to work in the factory as soon as possible. The school knows that this is not the case, but there is nothing that can be done to change parents' short-sighted vision. In the development of the school, blind pursuit of the flavor of the times and reference to the educational concepts in developed areas have led to acclimatization or lack of continuity. The anticlimactic flash in the pan has gone, but the traditional excellent teaching and educating methods that are very useful have been lost. All roads lead to Rome. As long as it conforms to the laws of education, there is no need to copy other laws, otherwise it will be a laughing stock.

It is very correct for the country to make great efforts to create a balance and narrow the gap between urban and rural areas, from hardware to software, from professional teachers to concept renewal. Our teachers engaged in basic education should take this opportunity to implement policies. We must have educational feelings and stick to the bottom line. Education is not for leaders to see, but for students to benefit for life and to make children's spiritual world more exciting. ...
