The Origin of Place Names in Anshan, Liaoning Province

The name of Anshan originated from Anshan Post in Ming Dynasty and was named after Maanshan in the southern suburb.

Before the Qing Dynasty, although there were many ancient castles in Anshan, the land was vast and sparsely populated, and the land was barren, and there was a scene of "Artemisia everywhere, desolate and filthy, without buildings" everywhere. In order to recover the war wounds and develop agricultural production in Liaodong, the Qing court began to implement the immigration incentive policy from the first year of Shunzhi (AD 1644), and deployed people from mainland provinces to reclaim land here. Since then, people from Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Shanxi and other places have come to settle here. Most villages in Anshan area were established after the first year of Shunzhi.

In the eighth year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty (165 1), the Qing court promulgated the Regulations on Recruiting People for Reclamation in Liaodong, which stipulated that "every farmer who moved in will be given a barrel of grain every month, six liters of seeds per mu of cultivated land, and every 100 people who cultivate will borrow twenty cows, of which the grain and seeds will be fully repaid after the autumn harvest". In the fifteenth year of Shunzhi, it was also stipulated that "the promotion of local officials depends on the amount of reclamation area, or a plaque was given to show praise." The policy is very favorable. Many local villages moved here, and some local officials led them to promote reclamation. This is an incident of recruiting people during the Shunzhi period. Many ancestors in Anshan area were distributed during the Shunzhi period.
