Geographical common sense

China land forms four steps: the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, known as the "roof of the world", is the first step, with an average elevation of 4,000 meters; Crossing Kunlun Mountain and Qilian Mountain to the north and Hengduan Mountain to the east, the terrain is obviously reduced. There are three plateaus in China, with an average elevation of1000-2000m, which is the second step. The second step is to go east, cross the Daxinganling-Taihang Mountain-Wushan-Xuefeng Mountain line and reach the seaside. The altitude is below 1000 meters. The main terrain is hills, low mountains and plains, which is the third step. Further east is the shallow continental shelf of China, which is a natural extension of Chinese mainland and the fourth step.

China is a mountainous country. There used to be 14 peaks over 8000m in the world, of which 7 were in China. Compared with the towering mountains, China has the deepest basin in the world-Turpan Basin, with the lowest elevation of-293m. Crops are cantaloupe grapes and long-staple cotton.

There are many geographical statements about the number four in China, including four great basin (Junggar Basin-Tarim Basin-Sichuan Basin-Qaidam Basin), four plains (Northeast Plain-North China Plain-Middle and Lower Yangtze River Plain-Pearl River Delta Plain), four straits (Bohai Strait-Taiwan Province Strait-Qiongzhou Strait-bashi channel) and four plateaus (Qinghai-Tibet Plateau-Inner Mongolia Plateau-Loess Plateau-Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau).

China has more than 5,000 islands, three of which are Taiwan Province Island, Hainan Island and Chongming Island. Zhoushan Archipelago in Zhejiang Province is the largest archipelago in China.
