The formation history of Kandun is a history of building ponds and reclaiming wasteland, and it is also a history of immigration. In the seventh year of Chenghua in the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 147 1), the first seawall of Kandun, Xinyuchao Pond, was built. In the first year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1796), it took 325 years, and all the existing conditions of Kandun were formed. Because the main settlement of Ertanggua Township is located in Kantang, it is called Kantang. Later, due to the construction of a beacon pier tens of feet high next to Kantang to prevent seawater, it was called Kandun. The permanent population is the offspring of immigrants from all corners of the country, and many surnames are a good witness. Since the Ming Dynasty, immigrants from all directions have moved in one after another, and the population living in settlements along Kantang has been increasing, gradually forming four blocks and two central markets from west to east-Zhoujialu City and Erzao City. By the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, Kandun became one of the largest market towns in Zhejiang Province, and it was the main distribution center of agricultural and sideline products such as medicinal materials, fishing salt and cocoon in Yaobei Mountain at that time. Hu Ceng, a poet in Qing Dynasty, described the popularity and prosperity of commerce at that time with poems such as "ten miles across the pond".
