Jiang's family originated from Shennong, one of the eight ancient surnames. Emperor Yan was born in Jiang Shui. Jiang was sealed because of the sound of water, and his grandson Jiang Ziya was sealed in Qi at the beginning of the week. In the Qing Dynasty, due to Shandong immigrants, the full sinicization of Manchu Eight Banners and the use of Han surnames, the surname Jiang in Northeast China developed rapidly. In the Qing Dynasty, all Jiang families and some Zhang clans collectively changed their surnames to Jiang.
