There is also a transitional type between the north branch and the south branch, which is generally called the central European type or the alpine type. Its pigment and height are between the north and south branches. The distribution area is about 48 to 53 north latitude, between the East Rhine River and the Volga River in the west. Most residents in northern France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, western Ukraine, southern Belarus and central Russia also belong to this type.

Although the ethnic types in Europe are mainly divided in the north-south direction, if they are divided in the east-west direction (except in the Mediterranean region), they can also be found.
