William james's family members

James's grandfather was Irish. 1798 moved to the United States and became rich by investing in the development of the Erie Canal. James's mother is Mary Robertson Walsh. Father Henry James Sr (1811~1882) lost a leg in an accident in his childhood, but he was not depressed. 1830 after graduating from union theological seminary in new York state, he worked in business and law. 1835- 1837, studied at Princeton theological seminary and later became a philosophical theologian. He didn't join any church organization because he opposed Orthodox Protestantism. After 1844, he believed in Swedenborgianism (Swedenborgianism? ), and accept the social reform theory of French social philosopher Charles Fourier (1772 ~ 1837). 1885, the first book published by James was Selected Works of Father. The name of this book is Henry James' Literary Legacy. James expressed his religious view in the preface of the book, and thought that vivid religious experience was more important than religious dogma.

James has three younger brothers and a younger sister. Second brother Henry James (1843 ~ 19 16) is a famous American novelist. Old Henry attached great importance to children's education, cultivated their spirit of independent knowledge from an early age, encouraged them to have critical discussions and let them receive education alternately between European and American schools. He sent them to Europe because he thought American schools were too narrow. He sent them back to America because he thought children should be educated among themselves.
