Huaimao liquor has a long history, according to the record of Huaimao Hengji in the Republic of China:

Tribute wine with hair, born with the bosom, is famous when it meets water, and each army pays tribute, gathering people and hair.

Huaimao Liquor began in Hongdong County along the Fenshui River in the Tang and Song Dynasties, from the early years of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty 1380 to the fifteenth year of Yongle. Its excellent brewing technology spread to China with the migration of Sophora japonica in Hongdong, and it is famous for brewing one mu of spring water in Baoding. Huaimao Liquor was used by Baoding Mansion built during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty until the eighth year of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty (1730), where the governor of Zhili was stationed, and the governor stationed there regarded Huaimao Liquor as a military tribute until the demise of the Qing Dynasty (19 1).
