Entry Requirements: (a) (i) Level 2/Grade E or above in five subjects of the Secondary School Certificate Examination, including Chinese Language and English Language ("Course B" before 2007), or equivalent [see notes (1) and (2)] [ Entry salary point: Point 3 of the Police Officer Pay Scale ($16,655 per month)]; or (ii) three subjects of the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, including Chinese Language and English Language (Course B before 2007), reaching the second level Grade/Grade E or above, or equivalent academic qualifications [see notes (1) and (2)] [Entry salary point: Police officers refer to point 2 of the pay scale ($16,160 per month)]; (b) Ability to speak fluently Cantonese; (c) Must meet the following physical standards: Male - at least 163 cm tall and weigh at least 50 kg; Female - at least 152 cm tall and weigh at least 42 kg, and must pass a physical fitness test; (d) People who wear glasses can also apply , but must pass the vision test without wearing vision correction devices; and (e) must be a permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and have lived in Hong Kong for at least seven years.

Note: (1) When the government appoints civil servants, the previous grades of English Language (Course B) and Chinese Language in the Hong Kong Secondary School Examination will be administratively regarded as equivalent to those in 2007 or later. Level 2 results in English Language and Chinese Language in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination. (2) Applicants with academic qualifications who possess Level 2/Grade E or above in five subjects of the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, have completed one year of full-time post-secondary education or equivalent courses, and meet the English language proficiency requirements but not the Chinese language proficiency requirements, may also apply Apply. Applicants will be arranged to take the government language test organized by the Civil Service Examination Board and pass the exam before they can be hired. (3) In order to enhance public awareness of the Basic Law and promote the culture of learning the Basic Law in the community, recruitment for all civil service positions will include assessment of knowledge of the Basic Law. Applicants who are invited to participate in the selection interview will be arranged to take the Basic Law written test on the day of the interview. The written test will be held after the interview. A candidate's performance in the Basic Law knowledge test will be used as one of the factors taken into consideration in assessing his or her overall performance.

Responsibilities: Police officers need to perform various aspects of police work and will be transferred to work in different departments, such as the Uniform Department, Traffic Department, Criminal Department or Marine Police. They are also required to abide by the relevant disciplines of the Police Force Ordinances regulations, and must wear uniforms and be on duty in shifts.

Employment Terms: Successful applicants will be employed on civil service probationary terms, with a probation period of three years. Those who successfully pass the probationary period will be considered for employment on the prevailing permanent terms of employment.
