The Battle of Würzburg, also known as the Bombardment of Valmy, was a tactically indecisive artillery operation. , but strategically ensured the results of the French Revolution. Moreover, although the battle was small, it became one of the decisive battles in history, and it was the first ragtag army of veterans and volunteers to successfully defeat the highly reputable Austrian army and the well-trained Prussian army.

After France declared war on Austria on April 20, 1792, it encountered enemy attacks and suffered repeated defeats, leading the anti-French coalition to invade France on August 19. The composition of the Union Army included the Prussian Army, the Austrian Army, the Hessian Army, and the Immigrant Legion commanded by the Duke of Brunswick, which also bore the honor of Frederick William II.

The troops under the general command became "suspects" one after another when facing enemies that invaded French territory. Before more serious operations began, the three French Revolutionary Army corps commanded by Rochambeau, Lafayette and Luckner had been reassigned to the two corps commanded by Du Moretz and Kellermann.

The invading coalition forces easily captured Longwy on August 23 and marched slowly to Verdun, which was weaker than Longwy.

The battle broke out near Valmy in northern France on September 20, 1792. It was one of the battles of the First Anti-French Alliance (and also part of the French Revolutionary War). The Army of Northern France, commanded by Charles-Fran?ois du Moretz, and the Army of Central France, commanded by Fran?ois-Christopher Kellermann, both stopped the Prussian forces commanded by the Duke of Brunswick. The army advances towards Paris.

Although the casualties were very small (the total number of casualties was less than 500) and the tactical results were not decisive, the Battle of Valmy is still considered one of the most magnificent battles in the French Revolutionary War.
