It's not that Japan doesn't know that you have China nationality. But China's laws explicitly stipulate that dual citizenship is not recognized. If you get a third country passport, you have to give up your China citizenship. If you don't want to give up, the China municipal government will take the initiative to cancel your property. This has nothing to do with whether the Japanese know that you have China nationality. It is the China government that prohibits anyone from having dual citizenship in China. If you only have Japanese permanent residency and you are still from China, you can continue to hold a China passport. However, if you get a Japanese passport or a passport from any other country, your China nationality will automatically become invalid, and you have to give it up if you don't want to.
