There are no rocket towers on the moon. How did the astronauts leave the moon after the American manned landing on the moon?

How do people come back after manned landing on the moon? This is really a problem. We all know that to launch a rocket from the earth, we need to build a huge launch tower, which is not a problem at all on the earth. However, it is impossible to build a rocket launch tower on the surface of the moon when humans land on the moon. There are no building materials on the moon at all. So how did the astronauts leave the surface of the moon and return to earth when the United States manned the moon?

The picture above is a picture taken when the United States landed on the moon. There seems to be nothing in the picture except the lander and the lunar rover. So how did they come back? Where is the return rocket? In fact, the answer to the question lies in the lander behind the astronauts.

In addition to landing on the surface of the moon, one of its important tasks is to get soil samples from the moon and bring them back to the earth, so it needs to leave the surface of the moon eventually, that is to say, its design needs to realize the return journey, unlike the previous Chang 'e spacecraft, as long as it is successfully sent to the moon for landing. Since everyone should consider the return trip, its design must have something in common with manned landing on the moon. What is the key to their design?

As you should know from the above picture, there is a launcher above the lander, called a riser. It is designed to return to Earth with a lunar soil sample. The elevator carries enough rocket fuel to escape from the moon's gravity and leave the moon by jet propulsion. As can be seen from the above figure, the lander is used as a simple launch support during the ignition and launch stages of the elevator.

According to the above picture, in the American manned moon landing program, after the Apollo spacecraft reached the orbit around the moon, the lander was separated from the orbiter and the returner with the elevator, and then the lander landed on the surface of the moon smoothly. The elevator was supported by the lander, ignited and injected, and then left the lunar surface to enter the orbit and re-docked with the on-orbit returner. Half a century ago, when the space rocket was invented only about ten years ago, it was inconceivable that the United States could achieve manned landing on the moon.
