Brief introduction of Martin drum tower

Matian Drum Tower is located in Tianxin Village, Pingyang Township, Tongdao Dong Autonomous County. Built in Shunzhi period of Qing Dynasty, it is a unique building of Dong nationality. It is 30 kilometers away from the county seat. Rebuilt in 1950, it is a national key cultural relics protection unit. Drum tower is a special symbol of Dong village.

The location of Matian Drum Tower is called Matian Village. Matian village is a relatively large village in this area. It turns out that there is a house with a diaojiao building near the Drum Tower. During the Cultural Revolution, villagers moved their houses to the mountains in the "migration to the mountains" movement, and the vacated homestead was transformed into a success. This Drum Tower was built during the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty (1644— 16 1). It was restored at 1948, covering an area of 240 square meters and having a rectangular plane. Matian Drum Tower is made of pure wood structure, with dry railings and lifting beams, and the leaning building with symmetrical north and south is the sloping top. The cornice at the top is parallel to the second floor of the main building, and the cornice at the next floor is connected with the first floor of the main building, resulting in the ground floor space and the second floor stage, which makes the leaning building and the main building integrate into one, which is spectacular. The beams, columns and melons in the drum tower have different shapes, uneven distribution and patchwork. The beams on the first and second floors are engraved with block letters such as "Wuhua Tianbao, Guotai Min 'an, Jixing Zhao Gao". Small pieces of painted grass patterns with national characteristics constitute an orderly and distinct artistic decoration, which is a treasure of Dong culture and art. There are various flowers, birds, insects and fish painted on the eaves outside the Drum Tower, with bright lines and bright colors. On the wings of the first to eighth floors, there are figures such as tigers, dragons, snakes, phoenixes, dragons, phoenixes, peacocks, anchovies, lions and running deer, which symbolize auspiciousness and happiness. Clay sculptures have different expressions and are lifelike. Beautiful decoration and exquisite modeling make the Drum Tower look more elegant and dignified. The whole building is exquisite in structure, beautiful in shape, elegant and dignified, and it is a masterpiece of Dong's architectural art.

1959 Martin Gu Lou was declared as a cultural relics protection unit in Hunan province, 1984 was overhauled, and 1996 was declared as a national key cultural relics protection unit in the State Council.
