Basic introduction to the SPP plan and SDS plan for studying in Canada

Canada’s vast land, abundant resources, and insufficient labor force enable the Canadian government to continuously absorb talents from all over the world, and Chinese students have also become a key attraction target of the Canadian government. Students with good language skills can adapt to local study and life faster, complete their studies faster and start working, and apply for immigration based on certain work experience. This is why the Canadian Embassy continues to issue policies that relax visa requirements for students with good language scores.

Many students choose the SPP program (Student Partnership Program) and the SDS program (Study Direct Stream) for Canadian study visas to go abroad. The visa approval rates of these two programs are much higher than those of ordinary visas, and they are relatively favorable and convenient. The policy also saves a lot of time for students and parents. However, some parents do not understand the specific contents of these two visa programs. Let’s explain it to you below.

SPP plan?

SPP is the Student Partnership Plan. It is jointly launched by the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) and the Canadian Embassy to attract more foreign students to come to Canada for education. Currently, more than 40 colleges and universities in Canada participate in the SPP program. The participating schools are mainly large and highly recognized local colleges or emerging universities. Such institutions usually provide practical teaching and are employment-oriented, making it easier for students to find jobs and immigrate locally after graduation.

The SPP program is suitable for students who plan to work and immigrate in Canada. As long as the applicant has an IELTS score of 5.5, there is no need to provide a 12-month bank history certificate. The student's bank deposit only needs to prove that it can pay for one year. Tuition is enough. Through the SPP program, the financial guarantee threshold for Chinese students applying to study in Canada will be greatly reduced. At the same time, the visa approval cycle will be shortened and the pass rate will be improved.

SDS plan?

Regarding another favorable policy for additional visas for international students, the SDS study direct entry plan, this plan further relaxes the language score requirements for students and the scope of school admissions. The relaxation is aimed at attracting students with good language skills. Through this policy, the visa rate for students in 2013 will also be much higher.

The SDS plan includes the following points: allowing students with an IELTS score of 6 to apply, recognizing French TEF scores (reaching B2/Level4) and language proficiency of students with a Canadian overseas high school degree in China, without their Additional language scores are provided. In addition, the new regulations also relax the requirements for admission letters, and conditional admission letters (i.e. dual admission or pre-admission) are also included in the conditions for application. At the same time, the SDS plan also has simplified funding regulations, that is, deposit 10,000 Canadian dollars in a designated bank, and pay one year's tuition or provide a guarantee equivalent to one year's tuition, as well as the guarantor's income certificate and other visa materials.
