The school is located in the northern end of Michigan, close to Canada, adjacent to Lake Superior and Lake Michigan, and a tributary of Lake Superior flows through the campus, with pleasant scenery. Horton, where the main campus is located, has a population of about 12000. Most of the residents are Finnish immigrants and are very friendly. Campus security is in good condition, making it the third largest safe campus in the United States (2008). Surrounded by clear lakes, there are all kinds of outdoor activities: skiing, canoeing, rock climbing, camping, swimming and so on. The American Highway 4 1 runs through the campus, which is about 7 hours' drive from Chicago, the third largest city in the United States. The airport near the school is Hancock (CMX), and it takes about 2 hours to fly from here to the aviation hub of Chicago (ORD) in the central United States.

In addition, the school's hockey team Huskies is one of the strongest hockey teams in American universities, and its home court is located in the SDC (Student Development Complex) gymnasium of the school.
