What is the relationship between Chaoshan people in Guangdong and Fujian people? The customs are similar.

As a Chaoshan person, I still have to admit that the cultural and economic development of southern Fujian should precede the Chaoshan area.

Judging from the source of population, most people in Chaozhou are descendants of Fujian immigrants.

Geographically, the Chaoshan area is "the sky is high in the northwest and the ground is oblique in the southeast", which largely determines that the development of Chaoshan area can only be extended to the coast.

Historically, the first political system appeared in Chaoshan area, which should be in the Sui Dynasty, when Guangdong and southern Fujian were classified as Yi 'an County, which means that Chaoshan and southern Fujian were actually integrated.

During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Fujian was limited by the narrow land and dense population, and a large number of Minnan people poured into Chaoshan, even accounting for two-thirds of the total population in Chaoshan area. The dialect before Chaoshan is not the existing Chaoshan dialect, but influenced by Minnan dialect and a small amount of Central Plains culture.

For the development of Chaoshan, the biggest influencing factor is of course the geographical environment. Secondly, it should be that Han Yu ruled Chaoshan for eight months, spreading Confucian culture to the middle and lower classes of society and immigrating from southern Fujian.

1. In the early days, there was frequent maritime trade between Minnan people and Chaoshan people, mainly taking Chaoshan Nan 'ao Island and Zhangzhou as nodes. There is also the custom of worshipping Mazu in Chaoshan area. According to legend, it is because Minnan fishermen set up the first Mazu Tempel in Nan 'ao Island.

2. With the entry of immigrants from southern Fujian, the farming in Chaoshan area changed from extensive to intensive, and the grain output increased greatly, which indirectly promoted the development of handicrafts such as cash crops, textiles and ceramics and maritime trade in Chaoshan area.

3. Take the Song and Yuan Dynasties as an example. During this period, nearly half of the time was occupied by Minnan people as Chaozhou Prefecture. A large number of wealthy businessmen who paid attention to family history and cultural traditions moved to Chaozhou, which also brought Minnan customs, folk religious beliefs and daily life habits into the region.
