Is Latvia visa-free for Chinese citizens?

Legal analysis: No visa exemption. Instructions for applying for a Latvian visa:

1. Latvian visas are divided into transit visas, short-term visas, long-term visas and local border visas.

2. Latvia has joined the Schengen Agreement. For short-term visas, please refer to "Schengen Visa".

3. Residence visa: Before submitting a visa application, the inviter should submit an invitation letter for approval to the Foreign Service Center or Territorial Office of the Office of Nationality and Immigration Affairs.

4. After obtaining approval from the Nationality and Immigration Affairs Office, foreigners should submit a visa application valid for 10 days to the Latvian Embassy in China.

5. After arriving in Latvia***, foreigners should go to the Foreign Service Center or regional office of the Nationality and Immigration Affairs Office in person to obtain a residence permit.

6. Valid travel health insurance policy.

Legal basis: "Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People's Republic of China" Article 9 Chinese citizens shall apply for passports or other travel documents in accordance with the law when leaving or entering the country.

Chinese citizens traveling to other countries or regions also need to obtain a visa or other entry permit from the country of destination. However, this does not apply unless the Chinese government has signed a mutual visa exemption agreement with the governments of other countries or if the Ministry of Public Security or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides otherwise.

Chinese citizens who enter or exit the country as seafarers or work on foreign ships must apply for a seafarer's certificate in accordance with the law.
