Meizhou is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, located in the northeast of Guangdong Province, at the junction of Fujian, Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces, with a land area of 1.58 million square kilometers. Sui and Tang Dynasties belonged to Chaozhou. In 945, Cheng Xiang was promoted to Jingzhou. In the fourth year of Song Kaibao (97 1), Jingzhou was changed to Meizhou.

In the 11th year of Yongzheng in Qing Dynasty (1733), Cheng Xiang was promoted to Jiaying Prefecture, and its jurisdiction included five counties of Huizhou Prefecture, namely Cheng Xiang, Pingyuan, Zhenping, Xingning and Changle, which were collectively called Jiaying Five Genus. 1988, Meizhou city was established. By 2022, Meizhou will have two municipal districts, five counties and 1 county-level city. By the end of 2022, Meizhou had a registered population of 5,393,500 and a permanent population of 3,858,000.

Meizhou is the main starting point for Hakka people to spread around the world since Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is the most representative Hakka settlement in the world and is known as the "Hakka Capital of the World". Meizhou is an important hometown of overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, with more than 7 million Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

In 20 13, China (Meizhou) Immigrants Memorial Square, the only immigrant memorial project in China established by UNESCO, was completed. Meizhou is the hometown of Marshal Ye Jianying, a famous old revolutionary base and a cross-strait exchange base. It is the only prefecture-level city in Guangdong that belongs to the former Central Soviet Area.

Meizhou City is located in the northeast of Guangdong Province, with geographical coordinates of 23 23' ~ 24 56' north latitude and11518' ~116 56' east longitude. Located at the junction of Fujian, Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces, it is adjacent to Longyan City and Zhangzhou City in Fujian Province in the east, Chaozhou City, Jieyang City and Shanwei City in the south, Heyuan City in the west and Ganzhou City in Jiangxi Province in the north.

The geological structure of Meizhou city is complex, mainly including fold structure and fault structure. Meizhou City is located in the south of South China Fold System, and there are four fault zones in northeast, east-west, northwest and north-south.
