Xixian County was called Guazhou in the Spring and Autumn Period because of its unique honeydew melon production in history. In the early Tang Dynasty, Guazhou was officially named as the administrative system. In the fifth year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (AD 1372), Guazhou was abandoned.

The name of Anxi began in the reign of Kangxi. Emperor Kangxi defeated more than 3,000 people under Ge 'erdan in Bronn, Anxi, formerly known as "Anxi", which means "stabilizing the western regions", and pinned the hope of pacifying the chaos in the western regions. In the first year of Yongzheng in Qing Dynasty, Anxi Zhili Hall was set up, and later it was changed to Anxi Prefecture and Anxi Zhili Prefecture. In the second year of the Republic of China (19 13), Anxi Zhili Prefecture was changed to Anxi County, and the county name was extended to the beginning of 2006.

In 2000, Anxi county governed 3 towns and 10 townships. According to the data of the fifth census, the total population of the county is 996 15. In 2005, the township administrative divisions were adjusted: Dongbatu Township, Ziqiao Township and Zhen Shi Township merged into Suoyang Town; Others remain to be investigated.

On February 8, 2006, the Ministry of Civil Affairs (Han Min [2006] No.31) approved that Anxi County in Gansu Province was renamed Guazhou County.
