Are there any banned foods in Singapore?

MediaCorp News reported that more and more people are bringing prohibited food into the country. The number of violations has increased by 40% every year in the past three years, and the most common illegal food is eggs.

Each item needs to be scanned when entering the country. If someone is suspected of bringing prohibited food, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority personnel will ask the person to stay.

Eggs, whether raw or cooked, cannot be brought from Malaysia.

After completing the relevant procedures, the law enforcement officers threw the eggs away in front of the violators. The passenger arrival hall is strictly controlled, and there must be no slack in vehicle clearance.

This comes from loaves and fish cakes.

From 2008 to 2010, the number of cases of bringing prohibited food into the country increased year by year, from 1,500 to 2,000 cases per year. Prohibited foods include eggs, pork, duck, chicken, sausages, meat floss and other meat products

Deputy Inspector Chen Jinyan, assistant commander of Woodlands Checkpoint, said: “During the festive season, customs clearance passers often bring excessive amounts of food. Or food from illegal sources enters Singapore, which will affect the efficiency of customs clearance and cause inconvenience to other people passing through customs.”

It is understood that items from neighboring countries are relatively cheap, so many immigrants do not hesitate to do so. Try the law yourself. If the public is not sure whether the food they are carrying can be imported, or if the food they purchased exceeds the limit, they should declare it. Violators may be fined up to $1,000, and repeat offenders may be charged in court and face a maximum fine of $2,000.

Singapore has 25 sea, land and air entry ports, and an average of 200,000 people enter the Lion City every day. According to our understanding, most prohibited food is seized at Woodlands Checkpoint.
