Physical examination and vaccine instructions for studying in the United States
I. Physical examination items
Physical examination for studying abroad generally includes two parts:
One is the physical examination prescribed by laws and regulations, that is, the statutory physical examination. Physical examination items are listed in the little red book, that is, the international travel health examination certificate.
General examination items (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse and temperature), internal surgery, ENT, chest X-ray, electrocardiogram, abdominal ultrasound (liver, gallbladder, spleen and kidney) and laboratory examination items (AIDS detection, STD detection, hepatitis B surface antigen, hepatitis C antibody, liver function (ALT or GPT)), blood type, blood biochemistry and blood routine examination.
The second is the medical examination required by the school.
Most students who are going to study abroad will receive English medical examination forms from foreign schools, asking for medical examination according to the items listed in the forms and issuing medical examination certificates. The purpose of physical examination is to let American schools know your physical condition, so that you can learn and grow healthily during your school days. If the school doesn't have a physical examination form, students don't have to worry, just check the standard items.
American schools also have clear regulations on the vaccines that foreign students need to inject before going to the United States, and they are presented in the form of forms, that is, immunization requirements (which vaccines are required by the school) or medical history forms (your vaccine registration records).
Second, the physical examination process of studying in the United States
Note: The following procedures are the main procedures for studying abroad for physical examination, and the specific procedures of each physical examination institute may be slightly different.
1. Get the number
2. Fill in the health examination application form
Just fill in your personal information.
Fill in the physical examination form
Fill out the health declaration form and go to the reception window.
Explain the purpose of going abroad (studying abroad) and the country you are going to (the United States).
If the school has special inspection items (such as PPD), it should also be explained. If not, it is a physical examination according to the default items.
Take a physical examination form, there are several forms in it, and you need to fill in personal information, both in Chinese and English.
pay
After filling out the physical examination form, go to the payment window inside to pay. The examination items include: X-ray examination, electrocardiogram, blood examination, general examination and immunization.
Start a physical examination
Blood test → urine test →X-ray → internal surgery → ENT → electrocardiogram →B-ultrasound → vaccination (get vaccination certificate).
Generally, after the physical examination and antibody detection are completed on an empty stomach in the morning, the vaccine will be vaccinated in the afternoon. The whole process of inoculation should not exceed 10 minutes, and all the shots should be given.
Submission of materials
After the physical examination, put the physical examination form, immunization certificate, physical examination form issued by the school and a 2-inch photo in the envelope and give it to the reception window.
It takes about 3 working days (depending on the time schedule of the local medical insurance center) to get the complete form and red and yellow copies filled out by the doctor.
Three, several common vaccines in the United States
Diphtheria/tetanus/pertussis vaccine
Short for DTP or any combination of DTP and DTT or Td, we usually call it "DTP-DTP mixed vaccine". This kind of vaccine is very common, and it is also a necessary vaccine for almost all middle schools. It also has other abbreviations:
Dtap: Diphtheria, Tetanus and Acellular Pertussis Mixed Vaccine
Mixed diphtheria, tetanus and whole-cell pertussis vaccine
Diphtheria and tetanus mixed vaccine
Td: Mixed vaccine of tetanus and attenuated diphtheria
American schools generally require 5 needles to record, while all vaccines in China only need 4 needles. If you were under 2 years old at the time of the last vaccination, you need to be vaccinated again. Therefore, students need at least one shot to meet the requirements of the school. It is usually injected once a month. No more than 40 days. There is no difference between adults and minors in this vaccination time. It is recommended to vaccinate once every 10 year.
Tdap (booster) DTP vaccine (booster)
Schools generally require injection records. If you haven't been vaccinated against DTP after the age of 7, you need to be vaccinated once, even if you have had pertussis.
Polio vaccine/polio vaccine
It is likely that there are two other names in the school vaccine demand list, namely, oral spinal cord gray matter vaccine (OPV) or inactivated spinal cord gray matter virus vaccine (IPV), both of which are the same vaccine. American schools generally require 4-pin records. If you were under 2 years old at the time of the last vaccination, you need to be vaccinated again. Generally, the interval is not less than four weeks, and the longest interval is related to the number of injections, so it is necessary to follow the doctor's advice.
Measles, mumps and rubella measles-mumps vaccine
Inoculation can be carried out alone or in combination. American schools require two shots for measles, and mumps and rubella may require one or two shots. Therefore, if you vaccinate separately, you should fill it out according to the requirements of the school form. If it is a mixed injection, it is enough to inject MMR twice. It's also a month between two stitches.
Varicella vaccine
American schools generally require double-needle records. Individual schools will make it clear that those who were vaccinated before 13 years old only need to be vaccinated once, and those who were vaccinated indirectly from 13 to 17 years old need to be vaccinated twice with an interval of 6~ 10 weeks. If students have had chickenpox, a certificate with the date of onset and the doctor's signature and seal can replace the vaccine.
Hepatitis b vaccine
American schools require 3-pin records. It is also an injection every month.
Epidemic meningitis vaccine
American schools will require injections. But it is mainly provided by college students when they live on campus. Basically all the students have been vaccinated. It is recommended to vaccinate once.
Tuberculosis test (TB test)
This is not a vaccine, but it will appear in the requirements of the school physical examination form. Almost every American school requires international students to take a test, especially China is listed as a country with high incidence of tuberculosis. This kind of examination is generally included in the physical examination process before students go abroad. However, some schools have made it clear that the test is valid within one month before going abroad, or it must be tested at school. For example, in the United States, schools in Connecticut generally require students to take tuberculosis tests.
