Shenzhen, referred to as Pengcheng for short, is a prefecture-level city, a sub-provincial city, a city with separate plans, a megacity under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, a special economic zone, a national economic center city and a national innovative city approved by the State Council, and it is one of the core engine cities in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It is located in the south of China, the south of Guangdong Province, east of the Pearl River Estuary, south of the Tropic of Cancer, east of Daya Bay and Dapeng Bay, and west of the Pearl River Estuary and Dingling. The whole terrain is high in the southeast and low in the northwest, mostly low mountains and hills, with a gentle platform in the middle and a coastal plain in the west. It is making every effort to build a pioneering demonstration zone in Socialism with Chinese characteristics, a comprehensive national science center and a global ocean centre city.
