Why don't Chinese Americans talk to their parents in Chinese?

I was born in the United States, and my parents are immigrants from Chinese mainland.

Chinese Americans speak English because it is more convenient to live in American society, or their parents themselves are more accustomed to expressing themselves in English. My parents have been proficient in English for 20 years, and Chinese is rarely used in American society, which makes me more and more unfamiliar with Chinese.

In China, where education is the most important thing, it is very important for children to learn Chinese from an early age. But my parents need to earn money. In their view, making money is more important than China's culture and education. But when our life is getting richer and richer, I have missed the best age to learn a language.

Although I can also choose to study in a Chinese school, the effect is not good. Because Chinese schools only start classes on weekends, Chinese learning courses are only held once a week, usually for 3-5 hours. Even after attending the whole 12 years, I still lack vocabulary, let alone communicate in Chinese. Therefore, language education can only be carried out in the form of family, and my family lacks this.

Over time, my desire to use Chinese is getting weaker and weaker, and I can't use it at school. In addition, there is a huge gap between Chinese and Western values. In order to avoid the cultural conflict between the western environment and China's traditional values, my parents also try to avoid such confrontation. Finally, they think that just using English is enough to cope with daily life.

So for us Chinese Americans, because we will live in the United States from generation to generation, although we want to keep Chinese, we will eventually throw them away.
