The latest policies for studying abroad visas in the United States in 2023 are as follows:

The electronic version I20 signed by 1.DSO (designated school official) is still applicable and can be used for visas.

2. Feedback from students and schools: Students who started classes before August 1 cannot apply for visas, and need to provide new I20 classes after August 1. To be on the safe side, students who start school before August 1 should either contact the school to change the start time to August 1 or apply for an American visa in a third country.

3. The presidential ban on 1 0043, which was implemented on June12020, has not been lifted, and all students studying in the banned entities still have a high probability of being refused visas.

Contents of the ban: Non-immigrant citizens of China who receive funding from China's strategic entity of national defense and civil technology integration, or non-immigrant citizens of China who are supporting or have supported China's strategic entity of national defense and civil technology integration, will be suspended and restricted from entering the United States for study and research through F and J visas, except for undergraduate studies.

Compared with previous years, there have been new changes in visa reservation this year. When booking a visa, student visas are divided into graduate students/doctors and non-graduate students, which also means that graduate students/doctors may be subject to more rigorous examination when applying for visas. Therefore, it is recommended that students who have been admitted make an appointment as soon as possible to set aside enough time for their trip to the United States.

It is understood that the US Department of National Security officially issued new regulations on April 4, and the internship period (OPT) of foreign students with four degrees in natural science, technology, engineering and mathematics will be extended from the current 12 months to 29 months.

The extension of OPT time means that these four types of students studying in the United States will have more time and more opportunities to gain work experience in the United States, which is undoubtedly good news for China students who want to stay in the United States.

OPT extension is not only applicable to international students in the United States who are still awaiting approval for their H 1-B visas during the internship period or when the internship period has expired, but also applicable to international students in the United States who will receive these degrees in the future.

It is understood that about 23,000 foreign students get these four degrees in the United States every year. In other words, there will be 23,000 students studying in the United States in the future, and their internship period after graduation can be extended by 17 months.

In addition, some procedural changes have been made to the OPT application, such as allowing students to apply for OPT within 60 days.
