I have been exposed to such cases in Mexico before. Group visa from China to Honduras, and then smuggled into the United States through Mexico. He was arrested in the northern city of Mexico, and was later collectively held in the immigration prison in Mexico City, or sent to other state prisons for poor performance. At that time, my handling method was like this:

1. First, I contacted the Embassy of China in Mexico, and I got the answer: there are too many illegal immigrants to be busy. Who told them to keep smuggling? When we have time, we will deal with them. As long as the embassy is unwilling to intervene in the short term, the embassy will have no chance in this regard.

2. Contact the immigration office of the detention center. Get visitation rights. The people who are put in prison are poorly treated. If you are locked up with illegal foreign immigrants such as Cuba, it will be even harder to rob you of a meal, force you to make trouble and beat you. After winning the right to visit from the immigration office, you can ask for a single room, make a phone call during the visit, and at worst send two books and several meals.

3. After contacting the Immigration Bureau and your friends, you will think of bail. Friends who are close can be released on bail. Otherwise, it is best not to pay bail. If it's just a casual acquaintance, it's not worthwhile to spend money on bail and the other party runs away again. Immigration generally does not recommend you to bail, because it is also a risk for them after all.

The best way out for your friend is to be sent back to China. Some people say that Americans have to pay for air tickets when they are repatriated to the United States. Unfortunately, this statement is not accurate. Repatriation is all at your own expense, but the Immigration Department doesn't want your friend to stay in prison, let alone have three meals a day. In order to prevent trouble, you have to call a doctor when you are sick. In some counties, the kind-hearted immigration bureau also bought you a rice spring roll in a Chinese restaurant, and the financial allocation for food exceeded the standard.

What you have to do is to take the initiative to negotiate with the immigration bureau and see how things can be solved. Generally speaking, you can negotiate to repatriate your friends. After the negotiation, an official document will be sent to your friend: When will someone, who violated some laws and regulations, be repatriated to China? Take this official document, and then the Immigration Bureau will check the previously confiscated passports and belongings and return them to individuals. Basically, everything for returning to China is complete.

6. Ask your friend's relatives to remit the money for the plane ticket, or you can pay it yourself if you have a good relationship. Sometimes the Immigration Department will fine your friend for violating Mexican law, not too much, hundreds of dollars.

7. After the whole procedure, your friend can return to China in a month or so.

After returning home, the people who worked for me during the Chinese New Year called and said that the American dream would not die, and they would sneak back to China if they had the chance.
