Do I need a visa to go to Canada?
1. Do I need a study permit?
If you go to Canada to study, then you need a study permit.
The following cases are exceptions: if you attend short-term courses of no more than 6 months, you don't need a study permit. However, if you are a citizen of China, you still need to apply for a temporary resident visit visa. If you study in Canada for a short time and then plan to continue studying for more than 6 months, you need to leave Canada and apply for a study permit. Therefore, if you plan to stay in Canada for more than 6 months, even if you are only attending short-term courses at present, you should consider applying for a study permit.
2. Where can I submit my application for study permit?
The Canadian Embassy in Beijing accepts applications for study permits from People's Republic of China (PRC), the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Mongolia.
However, if you live in Fujian Province, Guangdong Province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Hainan Province, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Macao Special Administrative Region, we suggest that you apply for a study permit at the Canadian Consulate General in Hong Kong. Learn more about applying for a study permit in Hong Kong.
Foreign citizens with legal status in China can also apply for a study permit at the Canadian Embassy in Beijing. The application form and materials are the same as those of China citizens.
The Canadian Consulate in Shanghai does not accept applications for study permits.
3. When should I apply?
We suggest that you submit your application 3-4 months before the start of school.
If you only have a copy/fax of the admission notice, you can submit the application with the copy first and then submit the original as soon as possible. If you haven't got a degree certificate, you can also submit an application, but you should specify the graduation date and submit a formal certificate as soon as you get a degree certificate.
Please indicate your name, date of birth and file number when submitting the above materials.
Note: In view of the sudden increase in the number of applications for study permits, it currently takes about three months to accept applications. Some applications may take longer. You should submit your application at least three months before the start of school.
How much does it cost to study in Canada?
To get a study permit, you must prove that you have enough funds to pay for your tuition, books, living expenses and return expenses during your stay in Canada. According to the guide of Citizenship and Immigration Canada, in addition to tuition fees, you need about 10000 Canadian dollars for living expenses every year. If your relatives plan to accompany you to Canada at the same time or later, you need to prepare 4 thousand Canadian dollars for the first relative, 3 thousand Canadian dollars for each subsequent relative, and the cost of round-trip air tickets.
If I am a graduate student, do I need to provide a high school diploma and transcripts?
Yes, no matter what degree you apply for, you should provide all the necessary materials in the application form. This includes your high school diploma and report card.
6. If my visa is rejected, will the embassy help me get back the paid fees from the schools in Canada?
number
7. Can my spouse and/or children accompany me to Canada, or can they visit me in Canada in the future?
If you go to Canada alone first, it is possible that your relatives can't accompany you to Canada. If you want your spouse and/or children to accompany you to Canada at the same time or later, you must prove that you can afford their expenses (see article 4 above). Since the funding provided by Canadian institutions and government organizations is usually only enough for one person, you may need to provide other funds or proof of savings. Your relatives also need to prove to the visa officer that they are worried enough in China to leave Canada and return to China.
