Historical Evolution of Changxing Island

Changxing Island is a sandbar where the sediments of the Yangtze River are deposited in the estuary. It is about 20km long from east to west and14km wide from north to south. It is banded, with a land area of 88 square kilometers. Located in the south branch of the Yangtze River estuary, it divides the south branch of the Yangtze River into two ports, north and south.

Changxing Island is composed of sandbars, mainly including duck nest sand, stone sand, Ruifengsha, Panjiasha, round sand and golden belt sand. 700 years ago, Changxing Island was an underwater sandbar. 1644 duck's nest sand is exposed to the water. 1844 duck's nest sand covers an area of 2.20 square kilometers, and the scouring sand covers an area of 7.20 square kilometers. 1843, bare sandbars began to be reclaimed. After 100 years, the area of tooth nest sand has expanded to 14 square kilometers, becoming the main body of Changxing Island. The scour-and-wrap sand is located in the west of Yawosha, and its area has been expanded from 1860 to 13.70 square kilometers. 1880, Chongbaosha is divided into three types of small sand: Ruifengsha, Shisha and Xiaoshisha. Small stones and sand soon fell into the river. 1842, the area of stone sand was nearly 20 square kilometers, and by the beginning of the 20th century, the sand body was shrinking. The area of round sand in 1854 is 1.40 square kilometers, which is located 5 kilometers southeast of Yawosha. Due to the influence of tidal current, the sand body first moves to the northwest, close to the duck nest sand, and then moves to the southeast, away from the duck nest sand. In the middle of the 20th century, the area of sandbar expanded to 14 square kilometers. 19 19 The gold belt sand covers an area of 5 square kilometers, located to the east of Yawosha, and then expanded to 7.50 square kilometers. 1924 Panjiasha covers an area of 9 square kilometers. Located in the east of Shitousha and the northwest of Tooth Nest, it collapsed obviously, and its area was reduced to 5 ~ 6 square kilometers in 1950.

These sand bodies were artificially blocked in the early 1960 s and 1970 s and connected into a whole, forming today's Changxing Island.

During the light years of Qing Dynasty, six sandbars became land one after another. In 2005, Changxing Town was transferred from Baoshan District to Chongming County, and in June 2009, the municipal government approved the establishment of Changxing Town.

Changxing Island is about 3 1km long from east to west, 2-4km wide from north to south and covers an area of 155 km2, of which Qingcaosha Reservoir covers an area of 67km2. Changxing Town People's Government governs 24 administrative villages, and the land area of Qianwei Farm is about 13 square kilometers. The existing population of the island is about 6,543.8+200,000, including 40,000 registered residents and 80,000 migrants.

At present, Changxing Island mainly grows citrus, covering an area of 20 square kilometers, and is known as the "hometown of citrus". Since 2002, large state-owned enterprises such as Zhenhua Heavy Industry, CSIC Phase I and China Shipping Industry have successively settled in the south bank of Changxing Island, with an industrial output value of 37 billion yuan in 2008.

On June 5438+1October 3 1 2009, the Yangtze River Bridge and Tunnel was completed and opened to traffic, and Changxing Island became the "bridgehead" connecting Chongming Island and the northern Jiangsu and Jiangsu provinces in Shanghai. Changxing Island is only 30 minutes' drive from the center of Shanghai.
