History of American Consulate in Chengdu

The US Consulate General in Chengdu was established in 1985. The first office is located on the first floor of Jinjiang Hotel. When the consulate was established, there were only six American officials and about 29 local employees. At that time, the consulate had only one administrative office, a small office dealing with political, economic and commercial affairs, a consular office, a logistics office and a news and cultural office.

In 1985, every office is headed by an American official. Compared with that year, the total number of consulate employees has exceeded 200, of which about 150 are local employees in China. They are the main force in our daily work, and many of them have worked in consulates for many years.

Americans here work relatively short hours, usually two to three years. They are all professional diplomats in the foreign affairs department of the United States and want to work in Chengdu. Agricultural trade office

The Chengdu Agricultural Trade Office of the US Consulate is a trade assistance and promotion office under the US Department of Agriculture. USDA has set up five agricultural trade offices in Chinese mainland, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Shenyang. The Chengdu Agricultural Trade Office of the US Consulate introduced and promoted American agricultural, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery products in southwest China, covering Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, Yunnan and Tibet.
