The United Nations Convention on Road Traffic requires a certified translation (see article 4 1968, paragraph 2 A). In some States parties, the institutions authorized by the national legal authorities to issue international driver's licenses are:

1. United States: AAA and NAC in the United States are the departments authorized by the government to issue international driver's licenses. They do not need American citizenship, but they need an American driver's license, and the driver's license must not expire within 6 months after the international driver's license is processed.
