Why is Korea called Korea?

The English names of Korea and North Korea are Korea, which is a transliteration of Korea. The transliteration of North Korea is North Korea. The name of Korea or the Republic of Korea comes from the name of the Korean Empire.

The western world first knew the name of the Korean peninsula in the13rd century through Mongols, who translated Silla into Sorangia. The name North Korea appeared in the report of the Dutch East India Company in the17th century, and gradually became the common name of North Korea.
